Rob Weeks to Stand Down as Chair

A message from Rob Weeks…

Good evening everybody, I just wanted to let all our members know that at the committee meeting tonight I announced that I wasn’t going to stand for the position of Chair of the club again next year.

Towards the end of last year a change in my family’s circumstances meant that I started to find it increasingly difficult to be out with the club at the weekends, and volunteering to help out at events meant considerable juggling of childcare to be there.

I made this clear to the committee at the time and that if everyone felt that they preferred a more visible Chair in 2016 then I would gladly support them. However, at the AGM no one came forward so I stayed on.

2016 has proven to be no different and I can’t see a change in 2017, and as I’m also finding it increasingly difficult to devote my evenings to futhering the club I think it’s only fair to stand down. SVCC needs a more visible Chair that is able to spend time leading the club through some of the challenges I foresee in the coming year, ensuring we rally enough support within our membership to put on fantastic events and drive through initiatives, and hand on heart at present I don’t think that is me.

The reason I am saying this intention now is to give our members plenty of time between now and the next AGM 4-5 months time to consider whether they or somebody else in the club is a perfect fit for the role. There are some great ideas out there to improve our club and I would genuinely love someone with the passion and motivation to help get them over the line to take them forward.

If you don’t feel you want the position of Chair, my other message is to remind you that if you’ve paid your subs it’s your club and there’s never anything stopping you from trying out your own ideas. And if you need club funding to ask for it! If you want some help with this let me know.

If we rely on the same volunteers to carry on organising, leading and helping then the club will stagnate. I sense some tired and overworked members in the club and we all need to do what we can to make SVCC a great club to be a member of.
