SVCC Summer Solstice Ride
We are now at the booking stage for our SVCC Summer Solstice Ride and need to get an idea of numbers. The objective is to ride across Somerset east to west, and in order to make the challenge accessible to as many members as possible we have broken the ride into three parts.
The first will be a ride from Radstock on Friday the 21st June in the early evening to The Full Moon at Rudge, our furthest point East, and return to Radstock that evening. This will be c30 miles.
Part two will be the next day, Saturday 22nd June, when we will ride from Radstock to our furthest point west, Simonsbath House Hotel on Exmoor. This ride will be c80 miles with some climbing at the back end of the ride. Cafe stops are planned at 25 mile intervals. We have secured the hotel dormitory where rooms can accommodate 3-4 people with their own bathrooms. Cost will be £20 per person for bed and breakfast. On the evening the hotel will arrange a “Cyclists Meal” at a good price but also aimed at being nutritious! This will obviously be an extra cost but not overly expensive.
Part three will be a ride back the following day, Sunday 23rd June of c 80 miles. For those who are satisfied with the cross Somerset achievement you are welcome to organise your own transport back on Saturday evening or indeed Sunday morning.
The accommodation is limited, we have already several members who have committed and paid deposits. We have a total of 27 places available for those requiring overnight accommodation.
It will be a super opportunity to undertake a Audax type ride with the Club. We will organise ourselves on the road to ensure we are in manageable groups with experienced riders in each group and we will have transport to take overnight gear and (further) spares to the hotel.
Would you please indicate your interest by emailing Guy Worsdall: email@example.com.
Once we are aware of numbers we will ask for a payment of £20 to secure your place.
