On Thursday 27th March 2008 a group of 25 Club members went to Manchester to watch a days racing at the World Track Championships. An early start from Radstock got us to the Velodrome for the start of racing at 12 o'clock with a block of seats on the opposite side of the track to the start finish line. We enjoyed a full days racing with qualifying in the men’s team pursuit, men’s sprint, women’s team sprint and women’s individual pursuit. The evening culminated in seeing the British men win gold and break the world record in the team pursuit, Rebecca Romero win gold in the women’s individual pursuit and Shanaze Reade and Victoria Pendleton win the team sprint. Robbie Edgell somehow predicted the winning time in the team pursuit to within two one hundredths of a second to win the sweepstake, he is available to advise on lottery numbers if required! I took a couple of hundred photos and if anyone wants any I have put about 100 onto CD so either give me a ring or ask Dave in Bike-it. Everyone agreed that it was a really good day out with exciting racing with a great atmosphere and special thanks go to Colin Osborne for booking the coach and track tickets and ensuring nobody got lost.
